Turkey Trains

According to travel guides, Turkey has a robust bus network, but do you want to ride a bus for 12 hours? Can you take a reasonably priced, air-conditioned train through stunning terrain devoid of roadside construction, with a bed in a cozy private sleeper or a comfortable Pullman seat with room to walk around? Those who take the train always gush about it. German engineers constructed a large portion of the network. The funny thing is that they were paid per mile, which explains the curvy shape of Turkish train lines. High-speed rail is now available. Excellent high-speed trains currently connect Istanbul with Ankara in 4h15, Istanbul with Konya in about 4h40, and Ankara with Konya in 1h44 after the first leg of the high-speed line was completed in 2009. It is superior to a bus by far.Over large distances, intelligent travelers will take the train, such as from Istanbul to Ankara or Konya or from Ankara to Izmir or Kars. Then take a brief bus ride to locations not served by the train network, like the vacation areas along the South Coast or Cappadocia. You can see the Turkey train map to check the trains' routes. One of the services that Eavar provides is Turkey trains booking service. You can have an enjoyable and memorable experience by using this service and exploring Turkey by train. All about Turkey Railways

In Turkey, overnight trains are an excellent option for travel. The national government runs (and generously subsidizes) the Turkish railways. On routes connecting popular tourist locations, a private first-class sleeper compartment for one or two offers Orient Express luxury for roughly US$ 30–40.Istanbul—Ankara, Istanbul—Denizli (and afterward Pamukkale, Heiropolis, Aphrodisias, and Laodykia), Istanbul—Konya, Ankara—Izmir, and Ankara—Adana are some of the beneficial routes. While an express bus may go the same distance in eight hours as a train can in twelve, you save the day by not spending it crammed into a bus. Do not even consider taking an overnight bus! Buses are acceptable if you need to travel a short distance, but consider using a train if you need to go a long way!

There is a website for the Turkish National Railways, also known as Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devlet Demiryollari (TCDD). Schedules, a detailed map of the route, and other great information are regrettably only available in Turkish. The single English-language part discusses the country's international connections to Iran, Romania, and Bulgaria. Istanbul and Greece used to have a railway link; however, Greece stopped all international rail services in 2011 despite having a largely dependent tourism industry.

Be advised that some Turkish timetables mention locations by the station's name rather than the city's name! There are two train stations in Istanbul. On the European side of the Bosphorus, Sirkeci is close to the Golden Horn and offers commuter service to the suburbs of Istanbul and international links via Bulgaria to Romania and beyond. On the Asian side, Haydarpaşa offers many more daily trains to locations around Turkey. Turkish railroad stations frequently label Istanbul as Haydarpaşa or simply H'paşa. Similarly, Eskişehir is classified as Enveriye, while Izmir is mentioned as Alsancak and maybe Basmane.

Turkey Train Name

There are different types of trains in Turkey that you can choose according to your budget and expectations. Here are some of them:

High-Speed Trains: Yuksek Hizli Tren (YHT)

New 250 km/h high-speed trains run on the Istanbul to Ankara, Ankara-Konya, and Eskisehir-Konya routes. They are as excellent as anything in Western Europe. They are referred to as YHT or Yüksek Hızlı Treni. They now exist in two models: the older model, created by the German firm Siemens, and the more recent model, created by the Spanish company CAF. In both Business and Economy classes, comfortable chairs are available. On July 26, 2014, YHT high-speed trains began traveling from Istanbul (originally from a suburban station named Pendik, 25 kilometers east of Istanbul) to Ankara. In March 2019, the service was extended to Söğütlüçeşme in the heart of Istanbul.

Classic Long-Distance Trains

The standard trains in Turkey are also a welcome surprise. Inexpensive, roomy, and currently primarily made up of contemporary TVS2000 air-conditioned coaches that are on par with any regular train in Western Europe. A TVS2000 train is preferable to a cramped bus traveling from Ankara to Izmir, Adana, Erzurum, Kars, and Eastern Turkey. They can pick from a variety of lodging options:

  • Pullman seats: First-class reclining seats in an air-conditioned, carpeted, open-concept saloon.
  • Sleeping cars (yatakli wagon in Turkish): Private, air-conditioned rooms with 1 or 2 beds and a washroom.
  • Couchettes (in Turkish, kuşet): shared air-conditioned cabins with four bunks.

TVS2000 Pullman Seat Cars

Turkish Railways' TVS2000 air-conditioned vehicles are modern, spotless, and carpeted. The coaches travel on smooth air suspension, and the reclining Pullman seats are roomier & comfier than any cramped bus seat.

TVS2000 Restaurant Cars

There are several trains with dining cars. Although TCDD stopped operating all of its restaurant cars in January 2016, a new catering agreement was signed. By mid-2016, the restaurant cars were back in service, with only cold food and beverages and no alcohol or cooked meals.

TVS2000 Sleeping-Cars

Turkish overnight trains employ modern TVS2000 sleeper cars with air conditioning. The mattresses, washbasins, soap, towels, and even a tiny refrigerator with complimentary mineral water, soft drinks, and snacks are all included in the sleeper cabins. Even a shower is located at the end of the hallway. During the daylight portion of a trip, compartments transform from a bedroom at night to a private sitting space with armchairs and a small table. The night trains from Ankara to Istanbul, Ankara to Izmir, the Cukurova Express from Ankara to Adana, and the trains from Ankara to Erzurum, Kars, Diyarbakir, and Tatvan are among the trains that include TVS2000 sleeping cars. These sleepers are a terrific way to travel and save money on hotel costs. The fee for a single-person reservation covers the whole single-bed compartment. Compartments are private. When booking for two people, the pricing is displayed per person sharing a two-berth.

TVS2000 Couchette Cars

Couchettes are simple, four-bunk cushioned bunks. Couchettes transform into common sitting areas for the portion of a trip during the day. On some routes, TCDD used to supply couchettes without bedding; however, as of late, all couchettes have been covered and come with a sheet, blanket, and pillow. The majority of overnight trains, including those between Eskisehir and Izmir, Ankara and Adana, Arifiye/Eskisehir-Konya-Adana, and Ankara and Eastern Turkey, now include modern TVS2000 couchette cars with air conditioning.
